Welcome to the journal!

Welcome to the page. This being a journal about my experiences with RSTS/E, I'm not going to sit here and try and describe it. It's got descriptions all over the web, and if you're here, you're probably looking for help with this ancient (or not so ancient? Mentec still sells it!) software product. I'll be posting all sorts of things here, but let's start with the basics. Meet my machines:

Rockwell - PDP11/23 PLUS
  • 512KW of MOS memory
  • Emulex UC07 SCSI disk controller
  • Seagate 4.6gb SCSI hard disk
  • DZV11 4-port serial MUX
  • RLV11 RL02 disk drive controller attached to two RL02 disk drives
  • DEQNA Ethernet controller
  • TQK50 Controller attached to TK50 cartridge tape drive
  • DILOG DU132 controller attached to Qualstar 1052 9-track reel-to-reel tape drive
Cooper - PDP11/34a (this guy's not currently running due to a (possibly) bad backplane)
  • 128KW MOS memory
  • RK611 disk drive controller attached to RK07-AA disk drive
  • Dilog DU686 ESDI controller attached to two Maxtor XT4170E disks
  • two M7856 serial units

Rockwell is generally up 24/7, I like to get to it from work, and it's cheap to run with just the CPU box and SCSI disks. The problems with Cooper I believe are due to the backplane either having bad wires (most likely), fatigued connectors (likely) or dirty connectors (least likely) It's not a priority at the moment.

Well, Rockwell is generating a new monitor at the moment, so it's tied up. Next post will be how the machines are reflected in RSTS/E. Hopefully ;)
